THE noise row between the Wiltshire Rural Music School in Trowbridge and a tenant in the same building looks set to escalate.
The school has applied for planning permission to convert the upper two floors of the building, where the tenant lives.
The Gloucester Road school was issued with a noise abatement order in February, banning all brass playing in the building, after the tenant complained.
Work to install soundproofing required by the order would cost £15,000 and volunteers running the school have considered moving.
An appeal against the order will be heard in September.
In the meantime the charity has raised some money towards soundproofing and Trowbridge Town Council has given it a grant of £500.
Cllr Jeff Osborn said: "They have raised about £3,000 and they have got to raise about £5,000 to do some remedial soundproofing to convince the court they are doing something."
The planning application will be discussed by West Wiltshire District Council on Thursday.
If approved this does not mean the tenant has to move, and the matter may have to go through the civil court.
