THE total catch to date on the Bristol Water reservoirs has now passed the 30,000 mark, with another good week's sport on all waters.
At Chew the settled conditions have seen much improved catches for boat anglers and still good fishing from the banks. Lighter winds have made fishing with static nymphs much easier and fish are now being taken on this method from most areas of the Lake.
At Blagdon the fishing also improved last week for all anglers. Few moving fish are to be seen even, although there have been plenty of buzzers active sub-surface, Most boats have been anchoring and fishing Diawl Bachs, Buzzers and Pheasant Tails on long leaders.
Good sedge hatches in evenings will sometimes bring on a rise. Bank fishermen have had mixed results especially during the daylight hours but those anglers waiting until dusk have often done well very close to the shore. At the Barrows the evening rises remains very poor with few flies hatching during fishing times. Most anglers are fishing with nymphs and mini lures and letting the flies fish very deep.
Chew produced a total catch last week of 643 fish averaging 2lb 3oz, topped by a brown of 5lb and rainbow 4lb 12oz, with 29 limit bags.
At Blagdon 527 fish averaging 1lb 15oz were recorded, topped by a brown of 4lb 2oz and rainbow 4lb. The Barrows yielded 196 fish averaging 1lb 12oz, topped by a brown of 3 lb 6 oz and rainbow 5 lb 8 oz.
Fishing on the Wessex Water trout fisheries continues to give good sport.
At Clatworthy 312 fish were taken last week with Bill Beveridge taking the best fish of the week a 5lb 10oz rainbow in a limit bag weighing 16lb 12oz.
At Hawkridge 207 fish were recorded with Bob Feetham taking a magnificent 9lb 14oz rainbow in a limit bag of 16 lb 6 oz.
