WORRIED residents want action to stop cars using a Chippenham road as a shortcut.
Almost 500 people have signed a petition demanding something be done to reduce the amount of traffic using Audley Road.
Residents say the road is now heavily used as a rat-run, and are calling for Wiltshire County Council to carry out a survey.
Campaigner Andy Phillips, of Sheldon Road, began the petition and wants action before anyone is killed.
He has collected 460 signatures and said feelings were running high about the issue.
He said: "Sheldon Road and Audley Road have become major routes into town for people living on the new estates at Queen's Crescent and Derriads Lane.
"People use them as a way to get across town avoiding the town centre."
The petition has been sent to Richard Lander, the county council's director of environmental services.
