A PURTON schoolboy has been highly commended in a national art competition.
Josh Gibson, 12, from Bradon Forest School, was singled out among hundreds of entrants in a contest to produce a poster advertising cutting edge global positioning technology.
Pupils were asked to create a poster and slogan to show how Geographical Information Systems can help people and business.
They could choose between showing how GIS could help the emergency services choose the best location for a new base for quick responses or how it could help the decision of where to place a new store for a supermarket chain.
The contest helped pupils learn about scale, distance and direction.
Head of humanities Charlotte Wilson said: "Josh did really well because everybody in his class entered the competition and he was up against pupils from schools all over the country."
