A JUNGLE of brilliant birds, animals and creepy-crawlies has been splashed across the walls of a Swindon school, as a lasting celebration of its 50th anniversary.

Pupils at Moredon Infants School have been spending the end of term working with local artist Gordon Dickinson, of No Added Sugar, to create the nature mural on the wall of the lower playground.

Anthea Hilson, headteacher at the school said: "Every child and every member of staff has painted something, whether it is a worm, a bird or an animal.

"It means that every person in the school has left a lasting mark behind, in honour of the school's golden jubilee."

The mural painting is the final event in a string of birthday celebrations at the school, which included a themed 50s day and a party and a themed sports day.

And the school's sports day got everyone out of the classrooms to end the school year on a high.

Pupils competing in egg and spoon races, beanbag races and skipping races were cheered on by their parents and teachers.

Mrs Hilson, said: "The whole school took part and we had a great day, with lots of parents turning up to support.

"It was a nice way to finish off the year, and the weather was good but cool enough for sport and we didn't need to worry about the children getting sunburnt."

The school expects to have raised £200 from the raffle and sale of refreshments and the money will be spent on new PE equipment for the next school year.
