A 44-YEAR-OLD woman was subjected to a serious sexual assault as she walked home alone from a night out.
It is the second sexual attack in the Gorse Hill area in less than a fortnight. A 14-year-old schoolgirl was raped on July 11. Police are not linking the incidents at the moment.
The latest attack happened at 2.30am in the early hours of Sunday in May Close, next to the Hawthorn Medical Centre.
The woman had been out to pubs and a nightclub in the Fleet Street area of town and became aware of a man following her has she walked home.
Det Sgt Kevin Rowles said: "She made attempts to cross the road and dodge down an another street but he obviously had tabs on her. She found herself in May Close and he was waiting for her."
The woman managed to fight the man off but she was left with facial bruising.
The attacker is described as aged 35, fat, with short brown hair.
