MOTORIST Henry Lamb has been jailed for 15 months and banned from driving for five years after "an hour or so of madness" that resulted in a trail of damage in Penhill.

Swindon Crown Court heard that Lamb, 25, of Ramsbury Avenue, Penhill, Swindon, was later found to have drunk almost three times the legal driving limit.

In the incident on June 8 this year, he committed offences including driving at a pedestrian.

Lamb admitted two charges of dangerous driving; drink-driving; racially-aggravated criminal damage; driving while disqualified and no insurance.

Rob Welling, prosecuting, said events began at The Circle, a residential area with many houses.

He said a Vietnamese man saw Lamb driving a Ford Sierra car in circles "around and around, revving on the grass for more than ten minutes".

His engine was described as "steaming" as he drove up to the Vietnamese man, swore at him and damaged his car, breaking two rear windows.

As he left, he struck a concrete wall and lost his bumper. This allowed police to trace Lamb at a later stage.

Lamb then drove along Cricklade Road into Penhill Drive. He nudged taxi driver Trevor Barrett's vehicle from behind as he stopped near Bratton Close.

Lamb was described by a witness as "being mad and out of control," said Mr Welling.

He shot forward towards the taxi's passenger, stopping four inches from his legs.

Lamb was arrested later that day.

Robin Shellard, defending, said: "Lamb remembers nothing about these moments, an hour or so of madness, at all."

Judge McNaught told Lamb: "You really are a dangerous person on the roads. I have to pass a prison sentence to reflect what you did on that day."
