TEENAGER Paul Martin was discovered with 1.4g of cannabis on him when stopped by police in a friend's car on Avenue La Fleche, in Chippenham.
Martin, 18, of Halfway Close, Trowbridge, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis when he appeared before North Wiltshire Magistrates Court in Chippenham, on Monday.
He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £118 costs.
Magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
Michelle Hewitt, prosecuting, said Martin was a passenger in a Ford Fiesta stopped by police on July 15.
"In the glove box on the passenger side officers discovered a clear plastic bag, containing a substance similar to vegetable matter," said Ms Hewitt.
She said officers recognised it was cannabis.
"It was shown to the defendant, who said: 'It's mine,'" added Ms Hewitt.
She said after his arrest Martin told officers during an interview at Melksham police station, that the cannabis was for his own use.
Ms Hewitt said Martin had one previous conviction, which was not drug-related.
Graham Hogger, the chairman of the magistrates' bench, asked Martin if he felt he had a problem with drink and drugs, to which he replied, no.
