DEVIZES slipped further into the Gloucester and Wiltshire Division Two relegation mire after their third defeat in a row at home to mid-table Winget on Saturday 20 July.
Skipper Andy Hodder, fit again after a recent foot injury, won the toss and elected to bat first on what appeared a good batting track.
Despite losing Ollie Smith early on, Paul Stobbart and Mark Collyer took the score on to 47 before Stobbart was unluckily stumped on 21.
Collyer was then on the wrong end of a dubious run out decision after making 21 and, although Edwards and Hulse batted sensibly against some tight bowling, the hosts struggled to wrest the momentum away from the Winget attack.
Newton finished with the best figures of four wickets for 59 from 13 overs as the visitors were left to chase 162 for victory.
Winget's reply began in positive fashion, although many of their scoring shots fell just out of the reach of the home fielders.
The visitors racked up 37 from the opening six overs but Australian Shaun Hilliard showed some control with the ball and finished with the best figures of two wickets for 41 runs off 11 overs.
Paul Vooght, Muse and Tadman all attempted to keep the run rate down but and aggressive 52 from Lambert and Tegg's unbeaten 39 saw Winget to victory with four wickets and ten overs remaining.
