FIREFIGHTERS in Cricklade have thrown their weight behind a fundraising appeal to send 13-year-old Liam Kemble-Young on a trip to the rainforests of Central America.
Liam, who is blind, needs to raise around £1,000 to take part in the trip to Costa Rica next April.
Crews at Cricklade Fire Station are holding a sponsored car wash on Saturday from 9am to noon.
Leading firefighter Rob Milican said: "Liam has almost become a mascot for the station. He's a real star.
"In the past we have raised money to buy him a touch screen computer."
The trip is being organised by Liam's school, the Royal National Institute for the Blind New College, in Worcester.
Liam, of Pike House Close, Cricklade, and his school pals will work on an environmental project with giant turtles.
Liam's mum, Nikki, said: "We're really grateful to the firefighters."
