BOYS and staff of Bishop Wordsworth's School in Salisbury bade an emotional end-of-term farewell to their popular headmaster, Clive Barnett.
Mr Barnett (52) has stepped down as head of the 111-year-old school, after ten years in the job, to become a schools inspector.
During his time at BWS, he has been an inspirational force behind plans for a new £2.7m sports hall and a rebuild that will provide seven new classrooms as well as a drama and arts department.
Work has now got under way on the project and Mr Barnett says it is a good time for him to bow out, so that his successor, Dr Stuart Smallwood, who will step up from deputy head from the start of the new term in September, can see the rebuild through to its completion.
At last Thursday's farewell, Dr Smallwood thanked Mr Barnett for his leadership, faith, dedication and sheer hard work and commitment in preserving and improving what he described as "this very special school".
Head boy Matthew Aldridge and deputy head boy Ed Davenport then presented Mr Barnett with parting gifts on behalf of pupils and staff.
