FYNAMORE Primary School in Calne has held a cake competition and planted a tree in memory of founding governor Evelyn Noble who died in January.
Corinne Petherick, ten, won the overall competition with a chocolate fairy cake, shaped like an Easter bonnet, surmounted with a yellow carnation made from sugar. Her name was engraved on a cup donated by Mrs Noble's daughters, which she will keep for a year.
The three categories of decorated fairy cakes, decorated biscuits and scones were fiercely contested, with 52 entries. One of the most eye-catching designs was a biscuit emblazoned with Fynamore School's badge, which included the River Marden and the date the school was established.
Headteacher Carolyn Maddox and chairman of the governors, district councillor Nancy Bryant, judged the competition, which Mrs Maddox hopes will become an annual event.
The winners of each category won a small cash prize and everyone received a certificate.
A flowering cherry tree with a brass plaque, engraved with the words 'Evelyn Noble, governor and friend' was then planted near the main entrance to the school.
Mrs Noble joined the school's board of governors at Fynamore's inception in 2000. She helped decide on the school's name and uniform. Mrs Maddox, said: "The children really enjoyed the day. Mrs Noble loved children and cooking so I thought the competition would be a nice way to honour her memory."
