HISTORY was created at Aldbourne on Saturday when 17-year- old Laura Jayne Brown was chosen as Carnival Queen with her 46- year-old mother Linda Power as one of her two attendants.
Laura Jayne, of Lottage Road, lives with her mother and step father, Mark Power. Mother-of-seven Mrs Power was persuaded by her children to take part and compete against the village's teenage girls.
"She was so chuffed that she got anywhere, she only took part for a laugh," said Laura Jayne. "We all bet her she would not do it."
Mrs Power proved them wrong by not only taking part, but also being chosen as one of the two attendants. The other attendant is 20-year-old Stacey Easton.
Laura Jayne said she was delighted that her mum had been chosen as an attendant and added: "She is more my friend than she is my mum."
Mrs Power, who works with Laura Jayne as a trainee framer and gilder, said: "It's something I have been thinking of doing for years jokingly but never had the nerve before.
"When I woke up the next morning I thought 'What have I done?' I have never known a mother and daughter to be chosen at the same time so perhaps we are unique."
