FIVE young anglers from St John's School in Marlborough and one ex pupil of Pewsey Vale School have returned from a school fishing trip to Southern Ireland with tales of those which did not get away.
The school's angling club run by former Pewsey teacher David Uttley and St John's premises manager George Warby spent a week fishing in County Clare with everyone making catches they will never forget.
Daniel Lowe, 11, who is in Year 7 at St John's made a personal best catch of 98lbs of bream in two days fishing on Lough Derg which included the biggest bream, rudd and roach he has caught so far.
Simon Nash, a St John's Year 9 student, caught 31lbs of bream in two days and Tom last from Year 11 caught 92lbs on what was his first fishing trip to Ireland.
Lee Emery, a former Pewsey Vale student who now works at Whatley Engineering in Pewsey, caught 202lbs of bream in the two days on Lough Derg.
Mr Uttley and Mr Warby, who only managed to get in one day's fishing after seeing the students settled in on the rocky coast of the lough, managed to net 100lbs each.
Mr Uttley said: "We were fishing in horrendous conditions with a strong wind blowing into our faces off the lough and whipping up waves with white caps.
"We were also fishing from a rocky foreshore which made landing the fish difficult so everyone can be very proud of their catches."
