SHOPPERS beware a giant banana is heading your way and he could win you a dream holiday to the Caribbean.
Banana sales have reached an all-time high in Britain this year and Tesco is celebrating the fruit's UK success by holding a banana roadshow at Swindon's Tesco Extra store on August 3.
A giant banana will visit the store and give out leaflets offering customers the chance to win enough Air Miles for a return trip to the Caribbean, spending money, plus money-off coupons on banana purchases.
Tesco's banana buyer, David Williams, said: "Bananas are now the nation's favourite fruit and we wanted to celebrate this with our customers in Swindon.
"By asking a giant banana to roam around Swindon we hope to remind customers just how healthy and good value our bananas are.
They also have a chance to take a trip to the Caribbean home to around 45 per cent of the sweet and tasty bananas on sale at Tesco."
Over the past 12 months, the UK has consumed around £3.5 billion bananas some 725,000 tonnes.
At least 24 per cent of these 840 million bananas or 174,000 tonnes were bought at Tesco and an estimated 1.5 million of these were bought at Swindon's Tesco Extra store.
