HAD Val Compton bought a house with a parking facility I suppose there would not have been a public inquiry about the stopping up of Angel Yard, Marlborough.
I attended the inquiry because for nearly 14 years we have looked at the disgusting mess of Angel Yard, and I wanted to express my pleasure that at least something was being done to improve the site. As a retired Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing I was also interested in Raglan's housing plan.
I write chiefly because Val mentions me and Town Mill. She has her facts wrong about sufficient parking here for both residents and visitors, and does not mention the spaces are paid for. The inquiry was properly advertised in Angel Yard for anyone who could read.
Why does not Val Compton enjoy the river from her house and leave the hassle to the council? I find it interesting that the council are ignorant of the fact that the plot of land outside Town Mill belongs to the county council. The town clerk said the owner was unknown. The county council has promised me that it will approach Raglan about putting in some extra kerbing. Perhaps the town clerk could negotiate for the willow tree to be replaced with a silver birth and the site paved? At present the river path propels mothers and schoolchildren out into Kennet Place.
