PURTON finally recorded their first league game of the season on Saturday 20 July with an emphatic 87-run success over Wiltshire rivals Marlborough.
Purton elected to bat first and were soon in trouble when Sheppard was bowled by Australian Matt Kimble in the third over.
Danny Dunn and Booth took the score to 28 but were both out in the tenth over.
The hosts then collapsed to 71 for six, but a record seventh wicket partnership of 82 between Bowler and Gardner retrieved the situation, the stand ending with the latter out for 68.
Bowler then added 26 together with Lancaster who, in typical fashion, hit five fours in his 21.
Bowler scored an important 35, and was the last man out at Purton posted a competitive 182.
Marlborough's reply began badly with the aggressive Lancaster having Jones superbly caught by Danny Dunn in the third over, before Preddy bowled Rogers in the next.
Lancaster continued to bowl with good pace and was rewarded with his second wicket thanks to another great catch from Dunn.
Preddy bowled well at the other end and picked up two more wickets, reducing the visitors to 44 for five in the 15th over.
Joe Dunn, with two for 21, and Bowler produced economical spells before Preddy returned to take his fourth and fifth wickets to finish with excellent figures of 5-27.
When Lancaster removed Nick Dobson's middle wicket in the 31st over Marlborough were all out for a disappointing 95, giving Purton their first league win of the campaign.
