THOUSANDS of learner drivers are putting their chances of passing the driving test at risk because they are not aware of imminent changes to the requirements, according to shock survey results compiled by driver training experts BSM.

More than 600 learner drivers visiting the company's website www.bsm.co.uk were asked whether they knew that a compulsory hazard perception exercise is to be introduced into the UK driving test later this year.

All candidates will have to pass that before being allowed to go on to take the practical on-road test.

The survey's finding that more than 90 per cent of learners remain completely unaware of the changes they may well be facing within just a few months will send shock waves through the driver training industry.

It will also concern and disappoint road safety experts and officials of the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) which has invested a great deal of money in the project.
