West Wilts is fortunate to have two Local Urban Nature Reserves, one in Warminster and one in Melksham.
There is currently a proposal to cut a new route for the proposed Wilts and Berks Canal through Conigre Mead Nature Reserve in Melksham.
This will totally destroy the reserve, which has been developed and maintained by local people over the last 12 years.
It is used frequently by many local children and students as an educational resource.
Urban Nature Reserves must be protected as they provide an easily accessible wildlife resource to an urban community.
We urge everybody interested in Nature Conservation to bring this threat to the attention of their local district councillors.
