HOUSE-TO-HOUSE inquiries aimed at trapping two thugs who sexually abused and urinated on a 32-year-old man with learning difficulties in Trowbridge have failed to turn up any new leads.
Detectives leading the investigation are baffled at the lack of evidence and hope DNA evidence on the victim's clothes will help snare the culprits.
The 32-year-old man, who was only on his third unaccompanied trip out, was attacked minutes after leaving the Anchor and Hope pub in Frome Road. Walking along the road between the Esso garage and the pedestrian crossing at about 9.20pm on Thursday, July 25, the victim was approached by two youths who taunted and teased him before knocking him to the ground.
Threatening to rape him and making him drink from a bottle of water filled with slugs, they both urinated on him as he lay cowering on the ground.
He is now too afraid to go out alone and refuses to leave the side of his carer, from Wiltshire Social Services.
DC Debbie Smorthit said she is disgusted at the crime and determined to track down the teenagers responsible.
Detectives and uniformed officers have targeted more than 50 houses and businesses in the area but no one could shed any light on the incident, which happened on a busy road.
DC Smorthit said the investigation is hampered by the fact the victim is unable to give a full account of what happened to him.
She said: "Whether he interpreted the urinating as a sexual act is not clear but he said they threatened to bugger him.
"It is hard to know how much of it is real. He has no descriptions except they had the same colour skin as him. They left him on the floor and ran off, unfortunately he was seen as an easy target.
"He has been deeply traumatised. It is horrendous these offenders do not know what they have done."
Police laboratory experts will send the results of their analysis on the victim's clothes within weeks.
Anyone with information on the attack or who was walking or driving along Frome Road between 9.20pm and 10pm on Thursday should contact DC Smorthit at Trowbridge CID on (01225) 763101.
