Part of Rodbourne Road will be closed for repairs from Saturday night until Monday morning.
Pedestrians, however, will remain unaffected.
Between 11.30pm on Saturday and 6am on Monday, the stretch from Kemble Drive to Church Place will be closed to all traffic and diversions will be signed via Great Western Way, Wootton Bassett Road and Westcott Place.
The council is using a new process to do the repairs which promises to be quieter and to cut down significantly on the amount of new stone that needs to be quarried and transported. Instead of digging out and replacing the stone which makes up 94 per cent of the road, the new process simply rejuvenates the bitumen on top.
This removes the need for noisy disc-cutters and pneumatic drills.
