WHILE I understand that having bags of rubbish piled up in the street for a week is both aggravating and annoying, I find myself confused that the residents of Union Street chose to leave them there in the first place.
Even if some people didn't know about the strike, did it not occur to them to take their bags back onto their property?
I was well aware that my rubbish was not going to be collected and although inconvenient chose to tie the bags and store them in my shed rather than leave them out in the street for days and days.
It's not an ideal situation but I would rather have my rubbish neat and secure in my shed than ripped to pieces by foxes in the street.
It was obvious that the rubbish wasn't going to be collected and I find it aggravating that the residents now complain about a litter situation that they could easily have taken steps to avoid.
One day strikes like these can cause problems. However, it seems to me that the majority of the problems arise as a result of an unthinking public rather than an unhelpful council.
