COUNCILLORS have met with officers in their bid to have the traffic lights recently installed at the junction of Newport Street and Croft Road in Old Town removed.
Coun Fionuala Foley, (Lab, Old Town and Lawns) and council leader Mike Bawden (Old Town and Lawns), joined officers from the council at the junction, which replaced a roundabout when the Wroughton park and ride ws built.
Coun Foley said: "My constituents say that it has just generated more traffic. We will be working with the borough on a traffic survey in September to record traffic volume. In the meantime I would like concerned residents and motorists to write to me, care of the civic offices."
Disgruntled Rosemary Earle, who runs Earle's newsagents facing the Newport Street lights, told head of transportation, Ioan Rees, that the crossing was a nightmare.
She also said her business had lost thousands of pounds because fewer people attempted to cross the road since the new traffic system was installed. Mr Rees said the borough was looking into ways of improving traffic flow through the area.
