THE last vacuum cleaner to be made at the Dyson factory in Malmesbury is due to roll off the production line on September 26.

That's when the last shift ends before the firm switches production to Malaysia, a move which will have made 590 people redundant.

Boss James Dyson announced in February that the company was moving the vacuum manufacturing side of the business to the Far East to take advantage of lower production costs.

Dyson will continue to employ more than 1,100 people at the Malmesbury site, where it will maintain the production of the Contra-rotator washing machine.

The firm says it will invest in research and development in Malmesbury.

Dyson has invested £32 million at the company's Malmesbury over the past two years.
