A MAJOR Swindon car park was today closing for six weeks for essential maintenance.
The council says the work on the spiral exit ramp and floors at Carlton Street has been timed to coincide with a quiet period in the summer holidays.
It follows work this time last year to renovate floors one, three and five.
The project is expected to finish on September 6, with the car park reopening two days later.
Kevin Last, the council's civil and structural engineering team leader, said: "We apologise to drivers for any inconvenience that this may cause."
He added that it was better to close the whole car park during the work, rather than have partial closures, because it would allow the job to be done as safely and quickly as possible.
The contractors are Churchmann, Fenner and Brown.
