SEVEN men were due to appear in court today after being charged with attempting to defraud Swindon-based Nationwide Building Society of £295,000.
Their appearance follows a lengthy investigation after the building society alleged fraud in November 2001.
One of the group, a 26-year-old man, lives in Swindon and is formerly of Blackburn, Lancashire.
Other defendants, who were not named prior to their appearance, are from Hounslow, Greenford and Kingston upon Thames.
