I READ with interest your article on Park South and the proposed new use for the school by the Welcome Trust and as a community centre.
Park South already has a community centre in Cranmore Avenue, hopeless to get to as the number 18 bus starts its last journey from Fleming Way at 6.10pm. Park North has no such centre.
When the closure of Oakfield School was first intimated I wrote to the council asking if part of the redevelopment could include a community centre for use by the residents of Park North. But as far as I am aware it now forms part of the University of Bath and Swindon and now Park South is to have two community centres!
This council seems set on providing facilities for every area except Park North. Leisure centres, superstores all West Swindon.
Wal-mart is offering to pay customers bus fares from the centre of town to its store but not from where they live. At Park North it costs £1.10 single fare to get to Fleming Way. Do I really want to spend £2.20 and have to carry a load of shopping on two buses just to shop at Wal-mart. I don't think so!
