THERE were exciting finishes in three matches in Division Two.
Shock of the day was the home defeat of Collingbourne by lowly Highworth.
Graham Chandler (69) top scored for Collingbourne as they totalled 196-8, Geoff Jeckells taking 5-33 in seven overs for Highworth. Lee Beaver (47) and Colin Mead (75) then took Highworth to a four-wicket victory with three balls to spare.
Nationwide visited Minety, who scored a respectable 183-6 thanks to Lorne Kitchen (66) and Andrew Brown (84 not out). Nationwide batted solidly, led by Stuart Archer (55 not out), and finally won by four wickets with four balls remaining.
A high-scoring game at Lechlade saw visiting Swindon Civil Service post a daunting 268-6, 106 coming from the last 10 overs. Steve Cunningham (97), Matt Hayward (59) and Stuart Smith (41) were the main contributors. In a tense finish Lechlade ended on 266-9, three runs short, with Paul Rowley scoring 84, Neil Pearce 54 and Nick Smith 39.
Division One: Westinghouse kept up their challenge in third place following their 80-run victory at Burbage & ER. For Westinghouse, Paul Bailey (60) and Colin Fry (32 not out ) top scored as they closed at 176-9. When Burbage batted, only Alan Wheeler (22) offered much resistance as they were bowled out for 96, with Mike Dix taking 4-31.
Buscot Park still seek that elusive first win after going down by seven wickets at home to Biddestone. Hamish Miller (57) and Tom Lockley (33) helped Buscot to a useful 187-6, Barry Mason taking 4-49 in 15 overs. Alec Mason (106 not out) then ensured Biddestone's victory.
Division Three: Seagry sprang a surprise against third placed Wanborough as they made 181 all out thanks to Alex Farraday (63) and Martin Hewitt ( 35 not out), Andrew Clinning taking 5-40 in 15 overs. William Tidmarsh 6-18 in 12.2 then toppled Wanborough for 53.
At Moredon Royal Oak, visiting Swindon 3rd XI made 193-7 with Colin Iles (43) and Steve Rizwan (42 not out ) top scoring. For Moredon, Steve French had 3-40 in 11 overs and Ian Morton 4-64 in 12. In reply, only Saj Khan (34) helped the home side to 161 all out as Alan Mcdonald took 2-43 in 15 overs and Mike Willoughby 4-15 in 6.1.
Division Four: Wroughton took over second place following their comprehensive victory over Bradford Town 2nd XI. Steve Hyde (59) and Mike Evans (60) helped Wroughton to 228-7, Tom Brain taking 3-75 in 15 overs. Bradford were shot out for 61 with Mark McMeekin taking 8-20 in 14.3 overs. The upset in this division was the home defeat of Blunsdon. Only 49 from Barry Palmer helped them to a modest 131 all out against visiting Mildenhall. The visitors, thanks to Les Trute with 61 not out and H Momi with 41 not out then knocked the runs off in 30 overs for the loss of one wicket.
Division Six: Leaders Litten Tree and Buscot Park 2nds continue to pull away at the top of the division. Litten Tree bowled visiting Devizes 3rd XI out for just 31, with Mike Leech taking 4-9 in nine overs, Steve King 2-6 and Julian Brown 3-8. Not to be outdone, Richard Read then responded with 5-9 in 4.2 overs as Litten Tree limped home by three wickets.
Buscot Park visited Biddestone 2nd XI who made 178 all out thanks to Sam Thornton (44), Don Keighley (34 not out) and Nick Hudson (21). For Buscot, Willie Townsend took 4-46 in 15 overs. Ronnie Fernandez(43 not out) Andy Morby (56) and Ray O'Neil (47) saw Buscot cruise to a six-wicket win.
Division Seven: In a rearranged match last Sunday the top two sides, Wootton Bassett 3rd XI and Westinghouse 2nds met at Bassett. The result of a high scoring encounter went in favour of the visitors by 30 runs. Batting first, Westinghouse scored a daunting 275-6 with Graham Ferris (68) and Heat Sisal-Davis (48). For Bassett, John Millington took 4-74 in 14 overs. Wootton Bassett chased from the start but despite Garry Giles' 84 and Save Griffin's 57 it was the bowling of Matt Dix for Westinghouse who finished with 7-64 in 11 overs which won the game for Westinghouse as Bassett closed at 245 all out
On Saturday Bassett struggled to 126-8 at Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nd XI, with John Millington (42) and Garry Giles (34) top scoring. Neil Thomas took 4-20 in 14 including a hat-trick. Bassett's bowlers responded well and led by David Wharton with 2-27 in 15 overs restricted the Dauntsey reply to 122-9 to give themselves a narrow four run victory.
Nationwide House 2nd XI, in third spot, had Trowbridge A as visitors and kept them to 167-8 with Dave Gibson scoring 62, Joe Perkins taking 4-39 in 12 overs. Mark Tuton (51 not out and Darren Milne (99) then steered Nationwide to an eight wicket victory with 10 overs in hand.
Division Eight: Cherhill 2nd XI retain second place as they won a high scoring home match with United Churches 2nd XI. Cherhill batted first and thanks to Steve Hutchings (85 not out) and Dave Hewings (58) closed at 237-4. Churches, in reply, with Mike Ellsby scoring 33, Mark Stratton 40 and Adam Frith 54 made a valiant attempt to get the runs but finished losers by 13 runs at 224-8.
Warminster 4th XI keep up their challenge for honours as they made 199 all out at Wootton bassett 4th XI thanks to Dave Howden (87) and Aaron Malik (65). For Bassett, Trevor Mitchell took 5-25 in five overs. Tom Cooper then anchored the Bassett reply, being first in and last out for 38, as they were dismissed for 106.
Bathford 2nd XI gained useful points with a six-wicket win at Swindon 4ths. Swindon made 169 with skipper Kevin Thompson hitting 93. Andy Sutton with 100 not out then steered Bathford to their victory.
