CORSHAM Town chalked up their first victory of the summer with an impressive 1-0 win at Dr Martens Western Division outfit Swindon Supermarine on the night of Tuesday 30 July.
Matt Pratley's 23rd minute lob proved decisive and manager Mark Godley was pleased with his side's display. He said: "It was a good performance. In the first half we outplayed them and in the second we outbattled them."
Corsham continue their preparations when they take on Dr Martens Western Division promotion favourites Weston-super-Mare at The Southbank on Saturday. Manager Godley hopes his men will gain some valuable experience from the visit of Weston.
He said: "We are very much looking forward to it. It will be an exceptionally difficult game and they are bound to be strong.
"They are joint favourites for the Western Division title this year and we are grateful to Frank Gregan for bringing his squad to play us.
"I would say it is going to be our stiffest test of the summer as I'm sure Frank will be looking towards fielding a settled side with the season only a couple of weeks away."
Corsham entertain newly-promoted Bath City Reserves on Tuesday night, kick off 7.45pm. Pewsey Vale were beaten in their opening pre-season friendly on Monday night as they went down 3-2 at Wiltshire League champions Shrewton.
New boy Dave Tyler put the visitors a goal up, before ex-Melksham man Russell Fishlock and defender Martin Churchward were forced out of the action due to injury. Shrewton took full advantage to move 3-1 ahead, before Paul Day pulled a goal back in the second half. Pewsey hit the bar twice in the closing stages as they went in search of a late equaliser.
Calne Town are also without a win after drawing 2-2 with Biddestone on Thursday and a 4-2 defeat by Wiltshire League Bradford Town on Saturday.
On Saturday, Calne Town entertain Keynsham and Pewsey Vale travel to Wiltshire League outfit Wroughton.
