GOLDEN wedding couple Des and Elsie Douglas were stunned and delighted to return from a weekend break away to discover one of their daughters had carried out a Ground Force-style makeover on the garden at their Froxfield home.
Mr and Mrs Douglas celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, August 2, and were treated to three days on the Isle of Wight last weekend by their two sons and two daughters.
They had no idea that while they were sunning themselves on The Solent, their daughter Janet Douglas, from Marlborough, and a friend were redesigning their back garden.
Mr and Mrs Douglas had already had some work done to terrace their steeply sloping back lawn to make it more manageable.
When they returned home on Monday they found the terraced gardens had been planted with shrubs and flowers with the Ground Force touch of pebbles and rocks. A new pool complete with water lilies was installed, surrounded by bamboo palings, and there was a new gazebo featuring a lifesized cut-out of Ground Force presenter Alan Titchmarsh.
Mrs Douglas, 75, said: "We had no idea they were doing it, it was a complete surprise."
