STICKERS of intergalactic objects are being used to encourage children to read during the summer.
The Reading Planet game is taking place in 16 libraries across Swindon and is aimed at children aged between three and 16.
Children are given a Reading Planet folder, which opens out into a space scene when they enroll.
They are encouraged to read at least six books with a space theme and are given a different coloured set of stickers every time they come into a library and talk to volunteers about a book they have finished.
If they finish six books they are invited to a special party with a magician on Saturday, September 28.
They will also receive a certificate with their name and a Reading Planet medal.
Claire Parsloe, project supervisor, said it is the fourth year that libraries have organised a summer reading programme.
"We are extremely pleased with how well the game is going. Children of all ages have come in wanting to join in. We have even had some children complete the game in the early stages. We hope more children will get involved," she said.
Last year 1,587 children took part in the reading game with 885 children completing the game.
This year library staff are hoping to increase those numbers by ten per cent before the game comes to an end on Saturday, September 14.
