A CELEBRATION of the Victorian era is the subject of a fun day of events at the Richard Jefferies Museum this month.
Called the Victorian Extravaganza, the show invites all the family to enjoy Victorian era entertainment, from Punch and Judy, to coconut shy, story telling, as well as demonstrations of lacemaking and corn dolly production. Pole lathe and hurdle making will be on show. Refreshments will also be available.
The event celebrates the era of the Swindon writer, Richard Jefferies who was brought up at Coate Farm in 1848 and moved away from the down 1877, following his marriage in 1874. Much of his writing is semi-autobiographical and refers to his early life in Swindon.
Entrance to the event is free, and includes entrance to the Richard Jefferies Museum. Free car parking will be available at the Coate Water Country Park.
