The proposed overhaul of refuse collection by North Wiltshire District Council obviously has local people concerned about how they will manage to reduce their rubbish.
Strangely, evidence seems to show that the introduction of large wheelie bins may in fact increase the amount of rubbish thrown away.
And, although kerbside collection for recycling may still be some way off, our rubbish problem is with us now.
We are set to run out of landfill space in the West Country in only six years, which is worrying to say the least. But we could cut back the amount of rubbish we throw away by half, simply by composting it.
Modern compost bins are clean, easy to use and make great, free garden compost.
You can get a compost bin from a local DIY or garden centre, or The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust promotes good quality compost bins for £12.50 (normal price is £34.95). Call 01884-841515.
