POLICE units were scrambled to a railway line in Westbury as two youths brought a passenger train to a halt.
The teenagers were spotted on the track close to The Mead on Tuesday night, July 30.
Railtrack was contacted and trains put on caution as units from Westbury and Warminster rushed to the scene.
The two youths jumped off the line when a passenger train blasted its horn, but jumped on again after it passed.
Officers launched a two-hour hunt for the youths but called it off because of poor visibility at around 10.30pm.
Sgt Jim Stannard, of Westbury police, said trespassing on the railway line was a risky and deadly practice.
He said: "There was a risk to my officers and a risk to the train driver and all the people on the train.
"We take a very dim view of this and want to catch those responsible."
Anyone who saw the youths on the railway line or know any information about the incident should call Westbury police on (01249) 822171.
