ONE of Trowbridge Hospital's best-loved staff members has retired after 30 years.
Elvira Lappin, 65, left her job as a maternity auxiliary at the hospital on Wednesday, July 31, She has been the face of the hospital for thousands of mums through running the reception in the ante-natal clinic.
A hospital spokes-man said: "She has great empathy with patients and a lovely, welcoming smile for everyone visiting the clinic." Mrs Lappin started working in the maternity unit in Bradford on Avon in 1973, moving to Trowbridge five years later when the Bradford unit was closed.
She said: "I have been really lucky. I'm going to miss all the staff and the mums and babies."
Mrs Lappin said she has been overwhelmed by all the good wished she has received.
Mrs Lappin was married for 41 years but her husband, David, died in 1996.
They had three children and Mrs Lappin now hopes to spend more time with them and her six grandchildren.
