ARTISTIC spirits are enticing Swindon children back to school during the summer holidays.

Seven pupils from Hreod Parkway School returned to the classroom to create animation screensavers with the help of Asda Wal-Mart in Haydon Wick.

The budding computer experts took digital photographs and sound recordings from the superstore yesterday ready to use in their designs.

Artist Jane Brake, who is organising the project, said: "It is great to see children getting so excited about being creative they are even willing to sacrifice their summer holidays."

Today the students were back in the classroom working on their individual screensavers.

James Hackett, 14, said: "This is a head start for the new year because we can use it as coursework."

And Wendy Toon, 15, was equally pleased to take part.

"I enjoy being creative and hope to include animals in my design," she said.

Their efforts will be exhibited at the school in September. They will also be displayed at the new library next to Asda Wal-Mart, due to open in November.

Joyce Arthur, events coordinator at Asda Walmart, said: "We also hope to use the designs on our new double decker bus. It is a really positive project."
