THE possible reappearance of the Army's old Green Goddesses is a piece of nostalgia nobody wants to see.

If they go into action it will mean some of Britain's most courageous workers, our fire fighters, are on strike because they feel their pay claim has reached an impasse.

Their demand for a 40 per cent increase in their basic wage may be aiming too high, but these men and women frequently risk their lives doing a job few of us would want to tackle.

They should be paid what they are worth: that is, considerably more than they are getting.
