FORMER Cirencester Town boss Ray Baverstock will return to management with Screwfix Direct League Devizes Town.

Baverstock accepted an offer from the Devizes board yesterday and replaces previous boss Brian Newlands, who quit the post two weeks ago.

Now Baverstock, who left Ciren in the summer after a disagreement with chairman Steve Abbley, must work quickly to build a competitive side before Devizes' opening game against Welton on August 17.

The current playing squad was left in disarray following Newlands' departure, but Baverstock is expected to bolster the team with some of his old Ciren favourites who followed him out the of the door at the Corinium Stadium.

Another former Centurians favourite, Pat Slattery, will join as assistant.

"It's going to be a big challenge," confessed Baverstock. "The budget isn't massive and we have to get a lot of new faces in quickly.

"But it's a good little club, it kind of reminds me of Ciren a few years ago. Hopefully me and Pat can take them in the right direction."

The new Nursteed Road supremo will take charge for the first time when Conference side Forest Green Rovers visit on Saturday.

Paul Andersen, released by Swindon Town in the summer, will get a second trial game for Swindon Supermarine when they host Tuffley in a friendly tonight (7.30pm).

Chippenham Town, who rest Gareth Davies, are at Team Bath (7.45pm).
