SEPT 16-21: JASON THORNTON, conductor and musical director of Bath Philharmonia, has been shortlisted for two international conducting competitions.

Mr Thornton is one of only 15 conductors to be shortlisted for the prestigious Leeds Conductors' Competition on September 16-21.

He is also one of 20 conductors to be shortlisted for the Donatella Flick Conducting competition, which aims to help conductors establish an international conducting career.

He said: "It is extremely unusual for a conductor to be shortlisted for both competitions in the same year."

Mr Thornton will also conduct the Bath Philharmonia at an outdoor concert at the Eden Project in Cornwall on July 27.

Tickets for the event, which will feature music depicting many of the greatest environments of the world, cost £25, including a ticket to the Eden project.
