MATT HEWLETT cannot be accused of contributing to Town's current slump but the midfielder insists there is a collective responsibility to put matters right.
The 26-year-old joined the rest of the squad to watch a video of Saturday's defeat by Port Vale, Town's fourth defeat in-a-row, and joined in a 'constructive' debate.
Hewlett feels what was discussed behind closed doors should remain that way, but he said there was a steely resolve to get back to winning ways.
He hopes Wycombe Wanderers will feel the backlash at the County Ground tomorrow night.
He said: "We watched the tape of the Vale game, which doesn't lie. The gaffer said his piece and then it was a case of the lads having their say. It wasn't a session designed for people to rant and rave. I think a lot of positives came out of it.
"It's a team game. You take the credit when things are going well but you have to be strong as a unit when things go against you.''
Although too modest to blow his own trumpet, it cannot be overlooked that Hewlett's absence disrupted a winning team.
The former Bristol City man starred in the successive victories over Barnsley and Chesterfield before a knee injury in the latter game forced him back on to Dick Mackey's treatment table.
Coincidence or not, Town have gained just one point from five matches since Hewlett hobbled off at Saltergate last month.
Manager Andy King has been using defender Andy Gurney to fill the gap left by Hewlett but the Bristolian's return to fitness gives him a welcome selection problem again.
Hewlett said: "It has been soul-destroying to be injured again. What's made it worse is sitting in the stands and seeing the lads getting beaten when they have not deserved it.''
Changes are likely for tomorrow's Worthington Cup game against Wycombe Wanderers and Hewlett is hoping to get the nod.
He was an unused substitute on Saturday and the lack of even a reserve game under his belt could count against him.
But if the call comes, Hewlett insists he will not let anyone down.
He said: "I can't wait to get back out there although I know there are no guarantees.
"It really isn't as if we have been playing really badly and getting beaten.
"The gaffer is right when he says there aren't a million things wrong.
"We all know we have to start getting results and we all know we are capable of getting them. A little bit of luck wouldn't go amiss either though.''
Andy King's preparations for tomorrow's clash have received a welcome boost.
Loan star Jimmy Davis looks almost certain to be included in the squad after Sir Alex Ferguson agreed to let the 20-year-old play.
Chief executive Mark Devlin said: "Manchester United have given their blessing.
"The Football League have been informed and we do not anticipate a problem.''
Town youngster David Bampton has been rewarded for some impressive early season performances in the reserves with a first team squad number.
The Stratton-born defender/ midfielder has been handed the number 21 shirt.
