WOOTTON Bassett Colts opened their campaign with a solid four-try 24-0 home win.

Strong running from outside centre Daniel Jones set up the first score as he linked well with second row Andy White.

With good field position, Bassett took full advantage as under 16s inside centre Ben Lyon, making his Colts debut, crashed over under the posts.

Bassett built on this early lead when a strong tackle from vice-captain Tom Prior knocked the ball loose, allowing blindside flanker Darren Lewis to races in from 40 metres.

The second period opened much as first with Bassett forwards making big inroads into the heart of the Bristol defence.

No 8 Danny Toon and lock Gary Williamson were particularly outstanding and the third try was not long in coming.

Adam Rumble charged hard for the line and Cleeve infringed at the ruck.

Quick-thinking openside James Cameron was on hand to tap-and-go and again Lewis was nearby to dash clear for his second.

With the game safe, Bassett's back three of Duncan Fulling, Rhys Harries and Karl Brant started counter attacking at will.

The try of the match resulted from one of Brant's forays plus an excellent run and off-load from replacement Tyler Barnes.

Man-of-the-match Cameron linked with younger brother Daniel to complete a fine opening performance.

Duncan Fulling converted this and one other conversion to send Bassett into their first league game against Salisbury at home on Sunday (2pm) in good heart.
