Chippenham's 2nd team started their Merit Table campaign with a superb 82-0 hammering of Thornbury.

Despite a slow start, Chippenham skipper Kenny Brown scored to nose the Wiltshire side in front.

That paved the way for an onslaught and further tries followed from Julian Squires, Jocelyn Barnes, Ben Suker, Neal Watkins and Dave Wells, who all scored two each.

A further 22 points came from the boot of young scrum-half Andy Williamson.

Chippenham 2nds take on Whitehall at home on Saturday (3pm).

CHIPPENHAM 3rds got their first-ever Bath Combination Merit Table Division Two campaign off to a flyer with a 37-5 win over local rivals Corsham 2nds.

Chippenham were the first to break the deadlock when centre Dave Burrows powerful surge took him over the line, Jack Oliver converting.

Corsham reduced arrears with a try, but Chippenham tightened their grip.

The backs stole the show with Ian Bannister leading the way, James Cook also opening his account before half-time.

After the break, Chippenham added two further tries followed for Burrows, Oliver converting one before scoring the final touchdown himself.

The third team travel to Old Sulians in Division Two on Saturday.
