THE University of Bath in Swindon wants to turn Saturday into learning day.

And studying doesn't mean sitting in rows in a classroom lessons include wine tasting, gospel singing or how to be an expert in the stock market.

Starting in October, the university is running a series of day-long courses for adults of all abilities.

Run by expert tutors, the university is keen for people to take part and bring their Saturdays to life.

The first course on October 5 is a field trip visiting two English vineyards in Hereford-shire and Gloucestershire and tasting their produce while learning about the challenges of making wine in a cool climate.

It is run by Jokie Baker, who has 20 years of experience in tasting and making wines. In 2000 she was guest wine editor for the International Journal of Food Science and Technology.

This light hearted day out sets the tone for the rest of the programme.

As Christmas approaches, singer Jo Sercombe will help you get into the festive spirit with her Gospel Christmas Cracker. On November 30 Jo will be giving some of our favourite carols a gospel makeover, as well as learning some modern gospel classics. No ability to read music is required, just the desire to make some noise.

Hal Dunkelman bought his first share at the age of 12, doubled his money in six months and took the profit.

Now he is going to share his secrets with you in A Beginners Guide to Investment on Decem-ber 7. It introduces you to the different categories of investment, risks and rewards and how to buy and sell investments.

University spokeswoman Sue Pycroft said: "The courses on offer are open to everyone regardless of their education, and we hope people will see it as an interesting way to spend their Saturday.

"Whether you want to further your interest in a hobby, learn a new skill or just enjoy a day out there could be something for you."
