DEVIZES hope to add some South Sea Island flair to their Southern Counties South bid this season.

Mosses Navunisaravi, Manu Vunibaka, Joni Waquavonovono and Matawalu Tuivunilio are just some of the names to have pulled on the Saddlebacks' jersey during the pre-season campaign and more could follow.

The London Road club hope to form a long-standing link with a host of players from Fiji, who are in this country as part of the British Army.

Skipper James Gaiger explained: "Up to 15 of them may be available, although only two are allowed to play in competitive fixtures.''

He added: "It has been fantastic to have them at the club.

"They have certainly added a bit of flair to our play and some of their tackling is bone-crunching to say the least.

"We hope it will be the start of a long relationship as they are in the country for at least two years.

With a host of new recruits in tow this season, Gaiger has backed his improving side to be a match for anyone but admits it's consistency that's required.

The skipper said: "Overall, I am sure we have the ability to beat any team in the league, as we showed last season.

"But the challenge is to maintain a level of consistency in a very tough league where Redingensians, Bournemouth, Oakmedians and Tadley will be favourites for promotion.''

Gaiger will certainly not be short of experience to call on.

Other new players are Chris Billi a hooker formerly from Pontypool and Shaun Sullivan, a fly half who has joined from Trowbridge.

Jonathan Anderson has re-joined the club after a spell in Bosnia and is expected to be among the most dangerous wings in the league.

In the centre, Owen Hughes has moved up from Clifton.

Dave Sullivan, formerly of Bath Under 21s, and Gareth Jones, a part of the England Women's coaching hierarchy, will again lead the squad this season.

Devizes have a vacancy for a physio, involving Saturdays and a night a week at the club.
