HELLENIC LEAGUE: PREMIER Division Highworth Town's winning run came to an end when they were held to a 2-2 draw at The Elms by visitors Gloucester United.
The home side were without a few regulars but still took the lead on the half hour when a cross by Belcher was headed back a across the goal by Ross Adams for Justin Miller to knock into the net.
Miller also took a hand in Highworth's second goal on 62 minutes. His effort was parried by United keeper Adam Bennett and Matt Jack was on hand to score from the rebound.
Three minutes later the visitors pulled a goal back, Chris Palmer converting a simple tap in at the near post following a corner.
A minute later the sides were on level terms when a speculative long shot hit Highworth's Ross Adams and took a deflection into the net, wrong footing keeper Tom King.
Highworth piled on the pressure in the closing stages and Tony Joyce, Wayne Cleverely and Justin Miller were all denied by some excellent saves from United keeper Bennett.
Purton's bogey team Ardley United struck yet again at the Red House, defeating the home side 1-0 courtesy of a late 83rd minute strike.
Over the past few years the sides have met 19 times with Purton winning just two and drawing one.
Purton boss Alan Clarke expressed his disappointment with the result saying: "I think we just edged the game but they have mugged us getting the winner near the end. We did have three or four good chances but failed to put them away. Perhaps we are not so good as some of the players think we are and I may need to bring in a couple more new faces.
"I think some of the players have got to take on a bit more responsibility.
"Ardley are a good footballing side but I think we matched them but just couldn't score."
A couple of chances went begging in the opening quarter of the game and the visitors took advantage of a let off by shoring up the midfield courtesy of Paul Spittals.
After the break Purton retained the edge and had a good effort hit the woodwork. Ardley keeper Dale Harris was also called upon to make a couple of useful saves.
The all-important goal came on 83 minutes when a header from Ardley's Stuart Beavan took a slight deflection and wrong-footed the home keeper to give the visitors the points.
Shrivenham picked up their first point of the season drawing 2-2 with Witney Utd on their own ground.
The visitors were on top in the first-half and two defensive blunders allowed Dold and Lawrence to give United a two-goal lead at the break.
It was a different story after the interval as a revitalised Shrivenham side tore into their opponents and pulled a goal back on 50 minutes through Neil Sutton. They then equalised 15 minutes later with a strike from Mark Peters.
