A GREENPEACE survey in Swindon suggested townsfolk are an environmentally friendly lot.
Of more than 400 people who took part in the survey last month, 99 per cent preferred wind, solar and water power as an alternative to nuclear power.
MP for South Swindon Julia Drown is thrilled with the findings.
She said: "These results are extremely encouraging and show that people want to find more sustainable forms of energy. It is a cause which I fully support."
Around 10 Greenpeace volunteers persuaded town centre shoppers to take part in the survey.
Greenpeace campaigner Kate Linnegar said: "We are really pleased with the results. People were signing our cards and actively registering their support for green energy resources.
"It is great that attitudes are changing and becoming more environmentally friendly."
