FOUR candidates have been shortlisted by Salisbury Liberal Democrats for the post of prospective parliamentary candidate at the next general election.
Yvonne Emmerson-Peirce, who fought Salisbury for the Liberal Democrats during the 1997 and 2001 elections, did not apply for the candidacy this time round, and the party will announce her successor on October 19.
The shortlist of hopefuls are: Swindon councillor and barrister Wendy Johnson; foreign affairs research assistant Ben Rawlence, who works in the Houses of Parliament; John Vincent, of Reigate, who is head of aircraft avionic systems at the Civil Aviation Authority; and company director Peter Yeldon, currently secretary of Salisbury Liberal Democrats.
The four will have six weeks to make their cases to local party members ahead of a ballot to decide who will take on long-serving Tory MP Robert Key at the next parliamentary contest.
