It was interesting to read Coun Francis' reply to my earlier letter, suggesting that I did not understand the planning process in local government. In fact I am well versed in this subject.
While the proposed new school is, of course, 'an exciting new building' with obvious benefits, I was referring to the proposed access to the site, off the A345 Pewsey Road, at the top of Granham Hill.
My concern, which has been already expressed to me by local residents, is the impact that additional traffic may have on Granham Hill, George Lane and Pewsey Road, and the dangers the entrance at this location may pose.
Coun Francis' committee, especially elected members of the west ward, should have realised residents in this part of Marlborough would be affected by the additional traffic and associated dangers.
The people of Marlborough should expect their town council to take pro-active action, or at least make representation to Savernake Parish Council.
Similarly, the residents of Marlborough should expect the town council to make comment relating to the plans for Savernake Hospital, which also fall under Savernake Parish Council.
Surely Coun Francis and his committee cannot let two such important decisions, which have a direct impact on the residents of Marlborough, pass without remark?
I am sorry Coun Francis took my previous letter to be "mischievous" but, as I have explained, my actions are concerned with making the Marlborough residents' comments heard, not just at Kennet, but wherever necessary.
A W Skittrall
Kennet District Councillor
West ward, Marlborough
