CITROEN will be unveiling not one but three sensational new models to the world at the 2002 Paris Motor Show later this month the breath-taking C-Air-dream concept car, the mould-+breaking C3 Pluriel and a new look for the popular Berlingo Multispace.
With its sleek aerodynamic exterior styling and its light and bright interior, the Citron C-Airdream concept car will attract many visitors with its looks alone.
Yet, beneath the stunning exterior of this imaginative 2+2 coupe, the use of drive-by-wire technology and advanced electronic systems reinforces Citron's reputation for innovation.
Shown for the very first time in its production ready form, the inspirational Citron C3 Pluriel is a car which is truly unlike any other a five-in-one vehicle that proves that the excitement and ingenuity of a concept car can make it to production.
From its four-seat saloon guise, the C3 Pluriel can easily be transformed into a panoramic saloon, a cabriolet, a spider, or even a spider pick-up.
Citron will also unveil the new-look Berlingo Multispace. On the outside, the redesigned bonnet and front wings, new headlamps, deeper bumpers and 15in wheels express a more robust look. Inside the cabin, the dashboard has been restyled to offer even more stowage space and, with more creature comforts and multiplex-linked functions, the versatile best-seller is set to become more popular still.
Making a special appearance will be the Citron C-Crosser concept car a sports utility vehicle capable of morphing from a spacious six seater into a semi-roadster and then into a pick-up.
First shown in 2001, the four wheel drive, four wheel steering C-Crosser demonstrates 'drive-by-wire' technology, while the moveable steering wheel allows the driver to sit in any one of the front three seats.
Motorsport fans will also receive a special treat with the appearance of Citron's awesome Xsara WRC. Fresh from a successful year, which included the recent victory in the Deutschland Rally, the Xsara World Rally Car will compete in every rally of the World Rally Championship series in 2003.
Other highlights on the Citron stand include models from the rest of the range such as the stylish new C3 and the C8 MPV, set to be launched in the UK in the new year.
Citron's brief to its designers couldn't have been clearer: build a technically advanced 2+2 coupe that combines stunning sports styling with a light, bright and spacious interior. Enter the Citron C-Air-dream.
Long, sleek and aerodynamic, the C-Airdream boasts fluid lines which start with the smooth bonnet and steeply raked windscreen before blending, unbroken, into the glazed tapering roofline that drops dramatically away at the rear of the vehicle.
The vast panoramic glazed roof allows light to flood into the passenger area where the satin feel of the seats and mix of leather trim combine to create a comfortable, sensuous and relaxed atmosphere.
Both rear seats can be folded, making the vehicle more versatile by offering additional luggage space but under its stylish lines, the C-Airdream is also brimming with technology.
It features drive-by-wire design, highlighted by the absence of pedals and gear lever which are replaced by steering wheel-mounted controls for the accelerator, brake and gear-change functions.
In addition, a centrally-located navigation and information screen is controlled using a mouse at the end of a broad central armrest.
The use of advanced electronic control systems is further highlighted by variable-ratio electric steering, which offers pin-sharp handling, and an electronically controlled braking system.
A vehicle dynamics controller offers continuous control of the electrical components affecting the vehicle dynamics.
For precision handling and ride comfort the Citron C-Airdream concept car is equipped with the company's acclaimed Hydractive 3 suspension system, while power is provided by a 3.0i V6 engine which is capable of 210hp.
