SWINDON Town FC supporters are now able to show their loyalty when they take to the roads.

The DVLA in Swansea currently has a range of personalised registration plates that can satisfy even the staunchest of supporters, featuring various combinations and permutations of STFC.

In the last few years, the DVLA's sale of marks department has seen a rise in the sales of football club-style numbers.

Publicity manager Louise Pierpoint said: " Motorists are increasingly buying numbers that reflect their passions and hobbies.

"The football registrations work so well because the message is clear, and there are so many unique combinations to chose from."

In recent years, the DVLA has made a large profit from the sale of such plates, although for many years it was forbidden by law to do so.

Plates that could be read as words, for example, were never issued in the past, with only a few slipping through the net.

Among them was COM 1C, whose owners included Liverpool comedian Jimmy Tarbuck.

Plates which might appeal to Swindon fans begin at £250 for license plates such as S3 TFC and go up to £499.
